Jim is a partner with Dameron Burgin Law Firm he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1983 and his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1991.  Prior to joining the Dameron Burgin Law Firm as a partner in the fall of 2007, Jim was a shareholder with Sheehy, Serpe & Ware, P.C., a litigation firm located in Houston, Texas.  Jim has over 19 years of experience representing hospitals, doctors, nursing homes and psychiatric facilities in medical malpractice defense litigation.  Some of the clients that Jim has represented include: MAG Mutual Insurance Company, Medical Protective, Texas Medical Liability Trust, Charter Medical Corp., Magellan Health Services, Inc., HCA, St. Paul Insurance Co., American Health Care Indemnity, Inc., Farmer’s Insurance Co., Team Health, Inc., Community Health Services, Inc. and Boston Medical Group.

Jim is a member of the State Bar of North Carolina and the State Bar of Texas, and a fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation.  He is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys and the Defense Research Institute.  Jim is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and the State of North Carolina.  He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court in the Southern District of Texas.  Jim is “AV-Preeminent” rated by Martindale-Hubble.

Jim has family that resides in Montreat, North Carolina, where he has spent portions of each summer since 1965.  Jim is married and has three children.  They currently live in Black Mountain, NC.
